Weir Nook Eco House, Devon

Building on our reputation as leading environmental design architects in Totnes and Devon, AK. Architects were appointed to deliver a private eco home in Totnes.

The house design was adapted around one of our eco home modular ‘custom build’ house type principles, which is now being developed into a wider affordable housing model around Devon and Cornwall.

The principle allows for a basic flexible modular design, which can be adapted by clients to meet their own needs and external finishes around the wider context and personal preferences. We were very pleased by the clients choice for ‘on edge’ vertical cedar cladding on this project.

The design intent is for a contemporary home of the 21st Century, which is constructed using our modular timber frame construction principles. This method achieves airtight construction and is super insulated completely with natural insulation.

  • Timber frame super insulated and wrapped in natural woodfibre systems.
  • Timber Frame alu clad composite triple Glazing.
  • Airtightness result of 0.8 ACH.
  • Heating demand result of approximately 40 kWh/msq.
  • Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery (MVHR)
  • Air Source heat pump.
  • Solar Photovoltaic panels
  • Built to AECB standard (not certified)
