This important historical coastal property required a significant conservation / refurbishment solution balanced with exceptional low energy and contemporary design extensions and alterations.
The solution by AK.A was for contemporary design extensions, which fully opened up to the coastal views, with terraced landscaping down to the ‘sea terrace’.
The main extension linked to the existing property via a glass link into a sensitively refurbished historic oak paneled ‘ballroom’ and entrance lobby at the back of the house. The front of the house opened up to flexible open plan living / dining / kitchen and accommodation with sea views. The glazed dining room wall opens up fully to the sea.
A fully integrated solar PV roof array (one of the first in the UK) designed by AK.A formed a critical part of the low energy design solution, which is supported with high performance glazing, solar shading screens and new insulation system to the existing structures.
